National Parent's Day 2024: Finding Harmony Between Parenthood And Self-Care
International Tiger Day: Interesting Facts About The Big Cat https://ift.tt/f9at5FB On July 29, people around the world observe International Tiger Day to raise awareness about the conservation of the wild cat. In the past 150 years, the population of wild cats has drastically decreased by almost 95%. Currently, the total number of tigers living in the wild across the globe is estimated to be around 3,900, according to World Wildlife (WWF). Numerous organisations are working to stop tiger habitat degradation, poaching, the illicit wildlife trade, and conflicts between people and wildlife. Climate change is another factor that has posed a threat to the tiger population around the world. International Tiger Day aims to bring together individuals, groups, communities and governments to join hands to save tigers. Here are some interesting facts about tigers: They are the largest wild cats in the world. An adult tiger can weigh up to 363 kilograms and measure over three metres. Each tiger has a unique stripe pattern. Most of the cat species have stripes on their fur and skin. Individual tigers are identified by their distinctive stripes and counted using camera trap photos to estimate population numbers. There are currently five different tiger subspecies- the Bengal tiger, the South China tiger, the Indochinese tiger, the Sumatran tiger, and the Amur tiger, often called the Siberian tiger. Unfortunately, the Javan, Bali, and Caspian tiger subspecies are extinct. A tiger's roar can be heard from three kilometres away. Tigers can communicate by using their ears. A tigress communicates with her offspring by using the white dots on the back of her ears. They serve as a flasher for the cubs. When a tigress flattens her ears in warning of impending danger, the cubs respond by hiding. For a tiger, a large deer can provide a week's food. Tigers have existed for a longer time than humans- roughly two million years. However, since last century, the effects of human development have resulted in a 97% drop in the tiger population. https://ift.tt/UJOGY2D July 29, 2024 at 10:03AM NDTV News-Offbeat https://www.ndtv.com

National Parents Day: Date, History And Significance https://ift.tt/Yqh7Xlr Parents are the epitome of selfless love and unflinching commitment. They always put their children before themselves. National Parents' Day is a celebration that honours parents for their enduring love, sacrifices, and wisdom. It's a day dedicated to celebrating the special link between parents and children, and to recognize the critical role they play in shaping their children's lives. This unique day serves as a wonderful reminder to thank them. This year, National Parents Day will be celebrated on July 28. Date Each year, the day is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of July. Considering how this day follows Mother's Day in May and Father's Day in June, it makes more sense to make it a special occasion for our parents. History In 1994, a Congressional resolution was signed into law by former President Bill Clinton in the United States, marking the beginning of National Parents' Day. The following year, on July 28, 1995, the first Parents' Day was celebrated. On that day, Mr Clinton himself presented the inaugural National Parents of the Year Award, according to the National Archives website. Significance Parenting is perhaps one of the most challenging tasks. The day is celebrated to thank and honour parents who do everything to raise and protect their children. National Parents Day demonstrates how much society values the role that parents play in their children's lives and how much labour goes into raising a child. At a time when kids are more likely to become overwhelmed by competition, this message of gratitude takes on greater significance. Ways to Celebrate On Parent's Day, children should try to make sure that their parents are happy and enjoy life. You can surprise them with gifts, take them out for dinner or even cook for them at home. Wishes "You have always been with me, both on good and bad days. You have motivated me to do my best. I love you, mom and dad. Happy Parents Day!" "Everything I am today is because of you two. Wishing you a Happy Parents Day!" "I feel lucky all the time for having such amazing parents like you! Happy Parents Day!" https://ift.tt/rMAJESV July 28, 2024 at 08:28AM NDTV News-Offbeat https://www.ndtv.com

British Woman Lost 48 Kg In A Year, Thanks To One Simple Gym Hack https://ift.tt/kIwQn54 A 20-year-old marketing executive from Northamptonshire, England, has gone viral on social media following her incredible weight loss. Millie Slater shared a TikTok video that showed off her dramatic transformation-from 115 kilogrammes in January 2023 to now being very lean at 67 kilogrammes. The viral video, which featured Ms Slater's toned physique, has already pulled in more than 400,000 views. She has shared a post detailing how her success can be attributed to consistent effort and a balanced approach to fitness and nutrition. With frustratingly unhelpful fad diets, she had made up her mind to forge her path by regularly hitting the gym and logging calories while focusing on protein consumption and maintaining a caloric deficit. In an interview with Newsweek, Slater revealed that incorporating weight training and incline walking on the treadmill significantly enhanced her gym experience. She noted that her approach closely resembles the 12-3-30 treadmill workout popularised by influencer Lauren Giraldo, which she found particularly motivating and effective. She walks at a 12 percent grade at 3 miles an hour for 30 minutes. This workout has been known to burn loads of calories with a low-impact exercise alternative. Slater says that exercise needs to be enjoyable, and walking itself is enough with a little more activity to keep one fit. Coincidentally, the Journal of Biomechanics recently published a study stating, "You'll burn 17 percent more calories if you walk at a 5 percent incline and 32 percent more at a 10 percent incline versus walking on a flat surface." HealthCentral says that in only 30 minutes with the 12-3-30 workouts, a person who weighs 150 pounds will burn around 300 calories. https://ift.tt/FeJWPSy July 27, 2024 at 07:49AM NDTV News-Offbeat https://www.ndtv.com
