Bengaluru Professor Resigns After Salary Hike Request Goes Unanswered https://ift.tt/oGVPd3O A 37-year-old Assistant Professor recently opened up about his unfair work experience at an engineering college in Bengaluru. Taking to LinkedIn, the professor claimed that despite dedicating 10 years to the institution and receiving positive feedback from his students, his request for a salary hike was never approved. "I did everything and I never said no any job assigned," he wrote. Disheartened by this lack of support, the 37-year-old said that he resigned from the job but was also surprised when no one from the college attempted to stop him.  "Hi 37M from Bengaluru. I was working as an Assistant Professor in one of the engineering colleges in East Bangalore. I was here from past 10 years. Everything was normal untill 2019. The new principal who joined in 2019 closed 3 branches in our college. I did everything and I never said no any job assigned, but my request to increase salary was never approved," the professor wrote.  "Students were happy with my teaching. I received consistently excellent feedback from my students. I was helping students with hackathons and competitions. Many a times I paid entry fee from my pocket for many competitions. During NBA and NAAC accreditation, I use to stay till 8-9 PM in the evening. We worked on Sundays too," he added.  Resigned from my job. byu/SquashImmediate6693 inbangalore The 37-year-old said that despite his best efforts, his request for a salary hike was never approved by the new principal. He also claimed that junior teachers were getting paid more than him. "I was clueless. I couldn't understand what mistake I was doing. Entire college knew what I was doing but our principal was not ready to acknowledge it," he wrote.  The professor further said that he met the college's principal to discuss before resigning, however, he "was not ready to discuss anything" with him in the absence of the head of the department (HOD). "This HOD always supported 3-4 faculty and he was delegating difficult tasks to rest of us. I was fed up with this system and resigned recently. Nobody asked why I was resigning and nobody asked me to stay!" he wrote.  At the end of the post, the professor alleged that he was not paid any EPF (employee provident fund) after the salary structure changed suddenly. "DA was reduced from 115% to 30% and the remaining 85% was added to other allowances. This reduces my gratuity by at least 50%!", he said. US School Assignment Asking Students If God Is Real Sparks Uproar Online https://ift.tt/XRkLCrg A homework assignment given to high school students in the US has ignited uproar online after a concerned parent shared a photo of the questions a teacher wanted the child to answer, including "Is God read?" In a Facebook post, the parent, Olivia Gray, posted her daughter Nettie Gray's world history assignment and described it as "some crazy shit". The assignment - titled "How did the world start?" - ended with two questions that raised concerns: "Is God real?" and "Is Satan real?" "This is a real assignment for a high school class on Oklahoma. This is one of Nettie's assignments for World History class. It's being called a research paper. This is some crazy shit overall and also on a technical level. Literally the kid had been in school ONE WEEK," Ms Gray wrote while sharing the picture of the assignment.  Take a look below:  Ms Gray shared the post a few days back. Since then, it has accumulated more than 375 likes and nearly 500 shares. Many reacted to the assignment in the comments section.  "I could understand questions on world religions in World History class that may include Christianity as well as other religions but this is just plain weird and wrong. How would this even be graded fairly?" wrote one user.  "This is insane. What sources is she supposed to use? I'm a teacher--and a challenging one. I have no trouble with a high school student (or even an upper middle school student) starting a research paper week one. But this assignment is absolutely wack. I never thought I'd say this, but she'd be better off at Catholic School!" said another.  Also Read | Experts Warn Of Gen Z's Growing Debt Crisis As Cost Of Living Surges: Report "I'm stunned and horrified they are even being allowed to push or preach their own personal religion/religious bias like that onto students in a public school in the United States," commented a third user. In a statement, it said, "Skiatook Public Schools became aware of the World History assignment in question through a social media post. Woman Says Man Accused Her Of Wasting Water After 26 Mins Bath, Internet Angry https://ift.tt/nmgEvdB A woman's story has become viral after she said that her partner accused her of wasting water during a 26-minute shower. The woman, who claims to reside with her partner, went into great detail in a Reddit post about their disagreement. According to the original poster, she is a "female with longer thick hair" who was having a "full body shower" in which she was "washing my body, my face, conditioning my hair, shaving all of it." She claimed that her spouse had "lost their sh** over how long I'd been in the shower." She wrote, "My partner lost their sh** over how long I'd been in the shower. I am a female with longer thick hair, and I was doing what some refer to as a full body shower - washing, conditioning hair, shaving all, washing my body, my face, and then got out. My partner said they were running the sink for as long as I was in the shower and asked if I noticed how much water was wasted then. I asked how I'd be able to hear that run while I was in the shower. 'Exactly.' followed by other things." "I added the songs I listened to while in the shower to their own playlist, totaled 26 minutes," she continued on Reddit. She explained that she takes this lengthy shower once every 3-4 days. The woman added, "I don't shower every day (because I work from home), but if I do - I'm under 10 minutes with body washed and hair shampooed for a regular wash." Since being shared, her post has amassed over 10,000 reactions. "He thinks you're the AH for wasting water but he kept the water running for the entire time? Worst. Water. Policing. Ever," a user said. Another wrote, "I'm still confused as to how he thought that proved his point." "NO bc if I'm shaving and washing everything my hubby EXPECTS me to be in there for at least 45 minutes. I just asked him and he said "45 to an hour" bc my normal showers of just washing my hair and body take 15-30 minutes," another added. A person remarked, "Exactly. A shower on a non-hair washing day is about 10-15 minutes for me. Washing body and hair? 25-30 minutes. 45 minutes or so for everything + shaving. He's out of his mind." "I'm a dude with long curly thick hair, don't shave anything, and can still crank out a 30 minute shower just focused on hair care! Man's an idiot," said a person. A Reddit user said, "Your partner intentionally wasted water to 'teach you a lesson', This is one scary logic, and two if you don't pay the water bill really really dumb. If you do pay the water bill, I'd ask them to compensate you for wasting water." https://ift.tt/Gb0I6nF August 25, 2024 at 07:43AM NDTV News-Offbeat https://www.ndtv.com

"Free Dinner, No Rent Hike": Bengaluru Landlord's Kind Gesture Wins Hearts https://ift.tt/SQqFtil A tenant's heartwarming account of his positive experience with an elderly landlord in Bengaluru is going viral on social media. Taking to Reddit, the tenant, who has been living in the landlord's building for the past five years, recounted a moment that left him smiling from ear to ear. "My landlord bought me dinner today," the post read. "This is a wholesome moment for me, and I wanted to share how much of a good guy my owner is," the tenant added.  In his post, the user shared an incident that took place recently when his 65-year-old landlord arrived at his door with an unexpected gift - a dinner parcel. This heartfelt gesture left the tenant deeply moved. He remarked on the landlord's character, describing him as a fit and socially active individual who had not once requested an increase in rent during the entire period of his tenancy.  "He's 65+ years old, and I have been staying in his building for the last five years. Today, he showed up at my door just now with a parcel and said he bought me dinner. I couldn't stop smiling. Nobody of his age has been this kind to me ever," he said.  Take a look below:  my landlord bought me dinner today byu/sweetestasshole inbangalore The tenant further noted that despite the five-year period, he had continued to pay the same rent as he did in 2018. Taking to Reddit, the tenant, who has been living in the landlord's building for the past five years, recounted a moment that left him smiling from ear to ear.

Woman Hired As Intern Shares How She Nearly Got Scammed By A Fake Company https://ift.tt/UflZXaE Students often aim to secure internships that provide valuable industry experience and look impressive on their resumes. However, in the quest for these opportunities, they can sometimes fall victim to internship scams. This is what happened to Instagram user Bhomi, who shared her experience in a video detailing how she was scammed after applying for an internship. In the video, Bhomi explains that she found two promising internships through Internshala, a popular platform for students seeking work opportunities. She ultimately accepted a position as an influencer manager with one of the companies, where her responsibilities included managing influencers for an upcoming event hosted by the company. As she narrates in the video, Bhomi was promised a stipend of Rs 15,000, but soon realized that the work assigned to her didn't seem to justify the amount. Her suspicions grew when a senior colleague informed her that the company was requesting a registration fee, leading her to suspect a scam. Bhomi then took the initiative to search for the company's address and GST number, only to find that they didn't exist. Eventually, the company owner blocked her. In the caption accompanying her video, Bhomi wrote, "I AM THE PROBLEM. A few things to note: Internshala is in no way responsible; they tried to help me a lot when the owner was unresponsive. I trusted the company because an MoU was signed, but they still failed to provide the promised stipend and ignored all warnings. The manager mentioned in the video was also an intern, equally confused and kept in the dark like me. The company has since been blacklisted on Internshala and can no longer post any opportunities. Stay safe and alert (unlike me)." World Photography Day: Date, History And Significance https://ift.tt/hqVlkjC Photography is an art form that allows us to freeze and keep moments forever. A single image can evoke a variety of emotions and feelings, which can be relived with a quick gaze. World Photography Day, observed annually on August 19, celebrates these aspects of the art form. The day commemorates the art of photography, as well as the technology and history that underpins it. Photography has played an important role in documenting historical events and encapsulating them in a picture that future generations will remember. Along with honouring the accomplishments of photographers, people also pay tribute to the pioneers of photography who encouraged people worldwide to learn this craft. History The history of photography dates back to 1837 in France when two men named Joseph Nicephore Niepce and Louis Daguerre developed the first-ever photographic process or daguerreotype. Following this, the invention was officially announced by the French Academy of Sciences on January 19, 1837. It is believed that the French government purchased the patent for the invention 10 days after the announcement was made. The government did not copyright the patent and gave it to the world as a gift. So, it can be said that the French established the fundamentals of the commercial photographic process. William Henry Fox Talbot later simplified the photography technique in 1839. He invented a novel and more adaptable method of taking pictures by employing salt prints on paper. The metal-based daguerreotype was challenged by this innovative technique. Significance Photography has improved over time. For many, it has evolved from a pastime to a full-fledged career. It has evolved from being merely a technology to a means of expression that enables one to convey a thousand words with a single snap. All individuals who work in the field of photography commemorate World Photography Day in an effort to raise awareness of the medium and acknowledge its potential. Wishes On this special day, here are some wishes you can share with those who love photography: "All you need to hit pause on life is to click a photograph." "Photographs never change, even when the people in them do." "A photographer shows the world to the world using his lens." "A photograph has the power to explain what even words fail to explain." "Photography is something that embraces reality in such a subtle way that it actually becomes something more than a reality. Chinese Woman's Refusal To Stow Louis Vuitton Bag Causes Major Flight Delay https://ift.tt/kmoOQJ4 Flight delays are frequently caused by irresponsible passengers' unruly behaviour, which can range from overly extended seat-settling times to completely ignoring boarding calls. But a strange incident that happened recently in China has given this problem a new angle. A woman refused to stow her luxury handbag, claiming it was too expensive and from a renowned brand, Louis Vuitton.  According to The South China Morning Post, the Chinese woman's refusal to put her designer handbag under the seat in front of her when asked by a flight attendant caused a one-hour delay and had to be escorted off the plane. As the video of the incident went to the Chinese social media app Douyin, it instantly went viral. The incident attracted 4 million views on Douyin and triggered heated discussions after a passenger posted a video clip of it. The passenger, who asked to remain anonymous, said the woman who was sitting in economy class insisted on putting her Louis Vuitton handbag next to her instead of under the seat in front. The incident happened on August 10, and the flight from an airport in Chongqing municipality in southwestern China was already departing and had to return to the boarding gate. Passengers applauded when police escorted the woman off the plane. The SCMP reported that a Louis Vuitton handbag costs about US$3,000 (Rs 2,51803) in China, and the economy class ticket for the flight from Chongqing to northern China's Hebei province, operated by China Express Airlines, costs 800 yuan (US$110). The airline did not respond to questions about the case or reveal the outcome after speaking to the passenger. The offending passenger's identity was not revealed. The incident has sparked heated debate on mainland social media. "She valued the bag more than her life," said one person on Weibo. "The flight attendant could have offered her a bag to put her handbag in. Is it really necessary to waste an hour and kick her off the plane?" someone wrote on Douyin. https://ift.tt/8HSlskW August 16, 2024 at 08:47AM NDTV News-Offbeat https://www.ndtv.com

Woman Gets Fired After Asking For 'Raksha Bandhan' Leave. Company Responds https://ift.tt/Cwi8ZmH A Punjab-based HR manager was abruptly fired after clashing with her boss over a controversial Raksha Bandhan leave policy. According to WhatsApp messages, the boss introduced a new rule stating that employees wishing to take leave for the festival on August 19 would have seven days' worth of salary deducted instead of just one. The HR manager opposed the unfair policy, but her stand backfired, leading to her termination. In a LinkedIn post, she explained that while she was given a two-week notice, her office access was immediately revoked. Following her public disclosure, the company denied her claims, stating that she had received multiple warnings in the past. In her LinkedIn post, she wrote: "Tried to take a stand for what was wrong as per the laws. But got a termination letter as a result. He mentioned in the email that he would give me two weeks' time, but he revoked all access so I could leave immediately. This is my chat with my boss, Kunal Kakkar, who terminated me because I took a stand and suggested that we cannot deduct seven days of salary for one day of absence." In the screenshots shared, the boss announced: "After considering our team unity, I have made the following decision: On August 19th, Raksha Bandhan, there will be no half-day or short leave granted. Attendance is mandatory. If anyone does not come to work on August 19th, they will face a seven-day deduction. Attendance on this day is compulsory. If anyone disagrees with this decision, they are welcome to submit their resignation." The HR manager tried to explain that deducting seven days' salary for a single day's absence was not "fair practice under the law or fundamental rights." However, her boss defended the policy, stating that if employees didn't agree, they could resign. He was intent on breaking employee unity under his leadership. After the HR manager's post went viral, the company criticized her for portraying herself as a victim to gain sympathy online. "It is very easy to play victim card and get sympathy. While most of us really enjoy some good gossip some just want reach and others they just receive the message on the whatsapp group to show their solidarity. It is very easy to judge listening to just one side of the story."  B9 solutions further wrote, "Did Babina . told anyone of you how she had received several warnings before termination regarding her excessive phone use, doing her online courses during working hours, unable to maintain social media accounts of the company, unable to fill up the vacant positions, doing her daughter's homework during working hours? She tried to form a conspiracy and a union by asking the whole staff to get a long paid leaves right from August 15th which is a national holiday till 20th. While the whole office was supportive of the decision to have that initial August 15th leave and our weekend leaves and assured everyone will resume work for half day with flexible shift on 19th August i.e the said Raksha Bandhan."  The company wrote that Babina was trying to manipulate the management by constantly saying it's the employees demand.  Despite justifying their actions, the company faced backlash from social media users and the majority supported the woman. A user wrote, "This is tyranny!" Another user commented, "Is corporate bringing slavery back? Imagine giving almost 45% to 50% of our day, every day, then not able to celebrate special festivals with our loved ones. Slavery, right? We must always stand up against such atrocities. I support you Babina. Thank you for standing up on behalf of your fellow employees. You stayed true to your work- HUMAN RESOURCE, for humans. I am sure you will get the right company." The third user wrote, "These company owners should be behind bars ASAP, because of these owners Employees in India are getting harassed daily. There are many friends of mine whom I have seen working on a national holiday and having no time for their family. King Charles Banknotes Auctioned for Rs 9 Crore, Over 11 Times Their Value https://ift.tt/7a6luC9 In an incredible auction, the first banknotes with the face of King Charles III have sold for a stunning 914,127 pounds (Rs 9,8600750), according to The Metro. These banknotes, which came into circulation in June, carry a face value of 78,000 pounds and include the newly issued 5 pounds, 10 pounds, 20 pounds, and 50 pounds notes. Those collectors did really fight for these items, such that a single 10-pound note went for 17,000 pounds just because of the desirable serial number-HB01 00002. Besides, one sheet of 50-pound notes also set a new record and sold for 26,000 pounds, the highest price achieved by any lot in any Bank of England banknote auction, according to the news outlet. Proceeds will benefit various charities. The gist of what is written here demonstrates clearly that collectors have a preference for banknotes with the lowest possible serial number, especially those near the magic mark of 00001. Sarah John, chief cashier and executive director of banking at the Bank of England, said: "I am thrilled that the auctions and public ballot of low-numbered King Charles III banknotes have raised a remarkable 914,127 pounds that will be donated to 10 charities chosen by Bank of England staff. Each charity does incredible work, and the money raised will have a positive impact on people across the UK." Charities that will benefit from the proceeds include the Childhood Trust, the Trussell Trust, Shout, Carers UK, Demelza, WWF-UK, the Brain Tumour Charity, London's Air Ambulance Charity, Child Bereavement UK, and the Samaritans. https://ift.tt/9EDygIA August 14, 2024 at 09:12AM NDTV News-Offbeat https://www.ndtv.com

Murderer's Curse Haunts British Pub Chair For Over 300 Years: Report https://ift.tt/RYLdfyw A local man, Wade Radford, has discovered the more than chilling legend behind a former pub in the village, the Busby Stoop, according to The Metro. The story goes that a convicted murderer by the name of Thomas Busby cursed a chair in the early part of the 18th century, which doomed the many people who sat in it subsequently. It is purported that Busby had been a criminal involved in the business of coin forgery and is said to have murdered his father-in-law in the heat of an argument. He is said to have, while being taken from the inn to be executed and subsequently hanged, placed a curse on anyone who dares sit in his chair. After his execution and subsequent hanging, the pub took on his name and a reputation that sent chills down people's spines. The chair was removed to Thirsk Museum after rumours of people who sat in it coming to some sort of misfortune. It is now securely attached to the wall. Intrigued by the story, Wade Radford, a then 17-year-old paranormal investigator, examined the Busby Stoop in 2008 and claimed to have captured audio evidence of Thomas Busby's ghost. According to The Metro, Wade, now 32, moved to the north east earlier this year and suddenly realised his new home is only 40 minutes up the road from Thirsk. Driven by nostalgia for his ghost-hunting teenage years, he went back to the village but realised when he arrived that the former Busby Stoop Inn had been converted into an Indian restaurant. He said, "It wasn't your typical pub; there was a sign hanging outside with the cursed chair and a noose hanging outside, but that's all gone. I thought, I have all this stuff from nearly 20 years ago; it's such a great story, and so many cool things happened while I was there, I was compelled to have a trip down memory lane." "The legend of how the chair came to be is such a fascinating tale and a real part of the Yorkshire legacy. My feeling of disappointment over how it looks now was so strong and unexpected, I felt compelled to do something about it. I got engulfed in writing the book about the history and what we found."
