Black Friday 2024: Offers, Deals, And Discounts You Need To Know About https://ift.tt/DdCjAGp As Black Friday approaches on November 29, 2024, tech enthusiasts are gearing up for discounts on popular products from brands like Apple and Google. While Apple is known for avoiding direct discounts, it usually offers Apple Gift Cards with select purchases during the event, according to details on the MacBook website. This strategy allows Apple fans to enjoy added value on their favourite devices. Meanwhile, Google has already rolled out early deals on its flagship products, giving shoppers a head start on holiday tech bargains. With both brands in the spotlight, this Black Friday promises to be an exciting time for tech-savvy shoppers. Here's how to prepare for Black Friday, including where and when to find the best prices. When is Black Friday 2024? Black Friday happens the day after Thanksgiving, which is Thursday, November 28 this year, meaning the shopping holiday falls on Friday, November 29. What is Black Friday? According to USA Today, Black Friday has become known as one of the biggest shopping and sales events of the year. Happening the day after Thanksgiving, it is believed to have earned the title "Black Friday" in the 1950s when Philadelphia police coined the term to describe the chaos they observed thanks to suburban shoppers flooding the city. By 1961, the name stuck in Philly but didn't go nationwide until the late 1980s, when retailers seized the opportunity to re-frame the day as something more positive, concocting the analogy of stores going from being "in the red" (experiencing financial deficit) until the explosion of sales on the day after Thanksgiving, bringing them back into "the black" (being profitable). When does Black Friday start on Amazon? According to USA Today, Amazon's Black Friday Week will start on Thursday, Nov. 21, and run through Friday, Nov. 29. Deals include up to 55% on select Amazon devices, including Amazon Fire Smart TVs, Kindles, Ring doorbells, and Beats headphones. There's also up to 50% off denim for the family from Levi's and apparel from OROLAY. https://ift.tt/UGZ6IxH November 15, 2024 at 11:36PM NDTV News-Offbeat https://www.ndtv.com

US Man Discovers Owner Of His Favourite Neighbourhood Bakery Is His Mother https://ift.tt/vHD8pFU A man in the US state of Chicago received the surprise of a lifetime when he learned that the local bakery he frequented near his home was owned by his birth mother who put him up for adoption nearly five decades ago. Vamarr Hunter, 50, of South Shore discovered that he was adopted at 35 and remained curious about meeting his mother ever since. It was after submitting a sample for genetic testing that Mr Hunter was informed about the uncanny coincidence, according to a report in The Washington Post. In 2022, California-based genetic genealogist Gabriella Vargas helped Mr Hunter track Lenore Lindsey, 67, the owner of 'Give Me Some Sugah' bakery. Once Vargas put together that Ms Lindsey was Mr Hunter's birth mom, she called and passed on his number. "He had a high match in his Ancestry matches, and it was easy to build the family tree and figure it out from there," Vargas told the outlet. Ms Lindsey. who was recovering from breast cancer surgery at the time and preparing to undergo chemotherapy, immediately rang up Mr Hunter despite her condition. "I was on the phone talking to my friend when a call came through from the bakery. I was like, 'Why is Give Me Some Sugah calling me?'" Mr Hunter said. Although the mother-son don't remember what happened next, Ms Lindsey remembers opening with "Is this Vamarr Hunter?", without recognizing the name of one of her most loyal customers. "When I knew who he was, we just started screaming on the phone. We were beside ourselves," Ms Lindsey said. "It was crazy. It was just so unbelievable," Hunter agreed. Notably, Ms Lindsey was only 17 when she gave birth to Mr Hunter in 1974. However, owing to the family's poor condition, she had to put up her son for adoption. "It was heartbreaking. It was a difficult time for my family. They wheeled him out, and I remember seeing a head full of hair and my mom telling me how beautiful he was," Lindsey recalled. Mr Hunter is now running the bakery alongside his mother and enjoying the time together as family - and business partners. He says once he retires, he wants to pass it along to one of his children. https://ift.tt/xWySmMK November 15, 2024 at 07:17AM NDTV News-Offbeat https://www.ndtv.com

Boss Left "Speechless" After GenZ Employee's Excuse For Showing Up Late https://ift.tt/haBCFG7 A recent incident involving a young employee's late arrival to work has ignited a lively discussion on social media. The employee, who had stayed late the night before, cited this as the reason for their tardiness. The situation, shared by advocate Ayushi Doshi on X, has polarized opinions.  The screenshot read, "Hii Sir & Ma'am I will be coming tomorrow at 11.30 am Because I am currently leaving office at 8.30 pm." Ms Doshi said she was left speechless after reading the message, "I can't believe my junior sent me this. Today's kids are something else. He stayed late, so now he's going to show up late to the office to "make up" for it. What a move. I am speechless mahn." In a follow-up tweet, Ms Doshi clarified, "To everyone commenting, let me clarify the situation. He was given a 3 deadline to complete a task that usually requires at least one full day of work. His working hours were from 10 AM to 7 PM, but if he wasn't able to finish within that time frame, he had to put in an barely 1.5 hours to complete the task. The issue is that he's losing valuable time by being on his phone instead of staying focused on the work.
